Joe has been a specialist within Treasury recruitment for over 10 years, working with widely recognised specialist brands placing senior-level Treasury leaders into major corporates, listed and private equity-backed companies, banks, and financial services institutions.

Joe is widely regarded as an industry expert and hosts many round tables with key stakeholders on current trends in the Treasury market. He is a ‘go-to’ headhunter for CFOs and Treasury professionals looking for advice on their team and career respectively.

My story

Having spent my formative years competing in high-level sport, I fell into my first recruitment job after attending an interview for a marketing position only to be convinced by the company that recruitment was the path for me. Beginning my career in a start-up environment gave me a strong grounding and work ethic as well as a deep understanding of the importance of relationships. After four years, I relocated to Australia to play cricket for 18 months, undertaking several sales roles while travelling and playing. Upon my return, I worked my way up with a leading UK finance recruiter and quickly realised that Interim Management was what I enjoyed most. This led me to move on to build and head up the interim Treasury arm of a leading specialist where I spent seven successful years as one of their highest performing Directors.

My focus

I have spent most of my career operating in senior finance recruitment for two leading specialist market recruiters, delivering senior treasury and finance mandates within executive search and interim management. My role at Savannah is to help the team build out the Financial Officers Practice, using my Tax and Treasury expertise to assist finance leaders in building out their teams. I approach my work in a very down to earth and relationship-driven manner. Clients and candidates tend to appreciate a direct yet informal approach. This, along with extensive industry knowledge and a strong network of contacts, has enabled me to provide quick and effective solutions when called upon. My clients range from start-ups to global blue-chip organisations (listed and PE-backed) across all sectors within commerce and industry, in both the UK and internationally.

My motivation

Those who know me would describe me as fast paced and competitive, be that in a sporting or work environment. The moment I moved into the Interim Management space, I knew that it wasn’t just a sales job, but a role that requires careful judgement, an understanding of peoples’ motivation, and the ability to build rapport that allows you to forge long term relationships. I enjoy learning about what makes people tick and how people think. I believe that adding a more personal touch in a specialist market has contributed significantly to my success in this industry. Emotional intelligence and an ability to understand relative strengths and weaknesses are only part of the story – chemistry has to work.
