Managing Partner, Consulting & Advisory

Richard is a member of Savannah Group’s Board and is the Managing Partner of Savannah’s Consulting Service Line. He helps large scale organisations across FTSE 350, Fortune 500, privately held and PE-backed businesses solve specific business-critical challenges by providing expert consultants to augment existing teams and structures. Richard has over 25 years’ experience working with leading consulting and professional services organisations advising on growth strategies and leadership solutions.

My story

I moved into search following an aborted career in finance where I learnt amongst other things, that I wasn’t cut out to be an accountant. I enjoy working with people and am naturally inquisitive, so financial recruitment seemed a natural move where I could leverage my accounts training whilst helping clients to build exceptional teams.

After a few years placing accountants into the large accounting firms, I found myself drawn into the world of Consulting when the Big-4 started to build their advisory practices. A step into Partner-level search opened my eyes to the scale of the market, so I in 2002 I decided to establish my own search firm, Rees Draper Wright, from a deserted office above a London pub.

Twelve months later we relocated to offices in Borough Market and built an outstanding reputation delivering leadership search and practice builds into a number of the Big-4, boutique consulting and global advisory firms. We expanded internationally to the US and in 2016 I sold the business.

In 2020 I decided it was time for my next challenge, and Savannah were kind enough to present me with a compelling opportunity.

My focus

I’ve joined Savannah to lead our Consulting business which complements Search and Interim by offering an agile and expert delivery capability, enabling us to match deep consulting experts with clients who need support for everything from digital transformation, HR and financial advisory.

My motivation

I love solving problems by engaging with people. I truly believe that everyone has a voice, and by building diverse teams that complement a client’s culture we are able to solve complex challenges in innovative and agile ways. But helping organisations deliver change is just part of the solution – engaging with their workforce throughout project delivery is essential and helps ensure successful outcomes. It’s very rewarding to bring people together to deliver meaningful change.
