My story
I had originally planned to attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and pursue a short service commission. I was lucky enough to receive the support of two British Army Regiments to do this. It was in my second year of University however (I graduated from the University of Exeter in Philosophy and Politics) that the possibility of a career in Executive Search came to me. The more I investigated this option the more I realised how well it aligned to my character, skills, interests and intellectual curiosity.
Joining a large boutique Executive Search firm, initially in a research capacity, was a fantastic training ground. I begun to develop my deep specialism in digital and technology leadership across multiple sectors. I went on to co-found a firm dedicated to this specialist functional area which grew to have offices in the UK and the US. This was then bought-out and I joined a couple of larger Executive Search organisations over the coming years to build and grow their franchises in this domain area. I have been incredibly lucky to work with many individuals during this journey (both colleagues and clients) who have supported and taught me an enormous amount. I’m grateful for the continual learning curve I am on in this ever-changing market.
I had huge respect for Savannah (rebranded in 2017) and their founders who had my functional area at the core of their DNA since their inception in 2000. It was therefore an enormous privilege to be asked in 2022 to join them as a Partner to co-lead this practice area for them. I have inherited an amazing team – the number one practice of any boutique Executive Search firm in this domain area – and I am incredibly excited by 2023 and beyond.
My focus
It was clear from the outset of my career that Digital, Data and Technology enabled transformation was disrupting every sector of the economy, bringing unprecedented opportunities for organisations with agile, forward-thinking leaders and disastrous results for those that fail to adapt. I have spent the last 13 years focused exclusively on this domain area and consider myself incredibly fortunate to now work at the forefront of this: the most exciting and fastest evolving area of business.
I have a track record of supporting both large multinational, PE backed, and privately owned businesses identify and secure individuals with the right mix of technical, commercial and leadership skills in what is a fiercely competitive global candidate market.
My motivation
I love working with a group of bright colleagues who share core values and partnering with such a varied and global client base at different stages of maturity. Really getting under the skin of the businesses we work with to understand their key drivers of growth, current challenges, and the leadership dynamics as you get to know the key personalities well is both a fascinating exercise and privilege. I invest huge amounts of time in this. Understanding these topics and surrounding nuances is key to assessing the knowledge and skill gaps that may exist so we can then upskill accordingly and in the most complimentary fashion. It is equally critical in ensuring the right cultural fit for both sides, something I place a huge focus on.
Becoming their “trusted advisor of choice” is always my goal when working with any client and I am delighted to have built this level of trust with many organisations and their respective Boards.
