Your competitor just brought an impressive digital executive from a global tech firm onto their Board. Smart move? Maybe. But will it work for you?
Digital maturity is a critical factor in the ultimate success of hires intended to progress an organisation’s technological effectiveness. Without a realistic assessment of where the business truly sits on the digital spectrum, we risk hiring leaders who are either overqualified, misaligned, or unable to gain traction. What works in a Tier 1 bank with embedded AI infrastructure won’t apply in a Tier 2 firm still heavily reliant on manual processes.
Digital maturity doesn’t just influence what’s possible, it shapes what’s credible. Hiring talent from the opposite end of the maturity curve might look good initially, but will likely prove ineffective in practice.
